FAQs

  • Why is Valchromat better than timber?

MDF has three advantages over other wood products: it can be manufactured at almost any thickness, its surface is ideal for painting, veneering or laminating and it can be cut smoothly without splintering. This means complex shapes and patterns can be made cleanly and precisely, making it ideal for architectural moulding effects.

  • Do you supply in cut sizes?

Valchromat is only supplied in 2440×1220 sizes, which make them excellent for cutting into smaller pieces and also being a fragile material for transport as well.

  • Will Valchromat help soundproof my room?

Sound Transmission Loss is another property that depends greatly on the building element and its method of installation. However as a general figure, Valchromat (16 mm and thicker) should achieve a sound transmission loss of 25 db.

  • Why is Valchromat better than any other coloured MDF?

Owing to the resin used, the panel is more compact and uniform throughout its thickness, enabling it to be worked by machine/drilled without coming apart. When varnished it is almost certain it will not peel.

  • What kinds of finishes can be applied?

A wax, oil or varnish finish can be adapted to the panels.

  • In damp zones, what finish should the panel have?

In damp zones the only finish that endows durability is varnish.

  • What kind of varnish should be used?

Any varnish suitable for wood can be used on Valchromat panels. Acrylic or aliphatic polyurethane varnishes are preferable to polyurethane varnishes as they do not yellow when exposed to sun.
